For starters, Michelle made sure that the house was filled with healthy, delicious and satisfying food. I really enjoyed the rotating cooking schedule. It was fun to showcase our cooking skills and creativity in the kitchen. We ate all day! I was NEVER hungry. When I got home, I had actually lost 3 lbs. - even after the Shaved Ices (yes plural) I ate in town.

Between Yoga, Meditations, Workouts, Painting on the beach, Exploring, Surfing, Paddle boarding, Biking and Daily Wellness Classes, you might think we had no time to ourselves. We did! We had time to shop, take relaxing sunrise and sunset walks, lay on the beach, snorkel and hang out with Sea turtles.

Why Kauai? Kauai has the spirit of Aloha floating around the island in each tropical breeze! You often hear about the magic of the islands—it’s true! Around every corner is something awe-inspiring. From massive mountains to fairy dwellings - this place is made to ignite something inside you! Michelle's wellness company, Better Beings, is dedicated to the WHOLE person and strives to make positive community connections wherever she goes. She created a 10-week program, You Revolution, for faculty and staff of Denver Public Schools and has touched the lives of over 500 DPS employees so far. In addition, she is involved with groups like Recess Inc. an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for teachers and she volunteers for, and supports the efforts of, the American Heart Association.  For this retreat, she connected with a Native Hawaiian-owned bike shop for our bike rentals and found a local artist to meet us at one of the many beautiful places to teach us how to paint the scenery.

The most incredible connection Michelle established was with Bear, of Kauai Adventure Fitness.  He brought a truly unique element to this retreat. Bear is native to Kauai, and helped us on our journey to awakening our inner light. His knowledge of island beaches, people, fruits, food and practices were amazing. He led us in several meditations that I can truly say, changed my life.

Michelle is a walking billboard for health and fitness and sees perfection in others. She is creative, productive, encouraging and smart. Her belief in manifesting your own life has really stuck with me. She has designed her life in a way that serves others and spreads health and wellness to as many people as she can. The things I’ve learned on this retreat will definitely help me continue to create the life I want to live. This is a wonderful retreat and I would encourage anyone interested to make the commitment and GO! Nothing about your trip will be average; it will all be more than you expected!

Hi Michelle, I can’t believe it’s been a month since we left the beautiful island of Kauai! I wanted to reach out to you to let you know how much of an impact the retreat has had on my life.

When you told me about the retreat, I immediately took to your website to read about Better Beings and the Kauai retreat. In the first paragraph on your homepage, you state, “In all my years in the health and fitness industry, never has the concept of wellness been as popular as it is now. People are seeing the benefits of taking control of their lives in terms of their nutrition and fitness, as well as emotional, and spiritual health”. As you know, the last few years of my life have been challenging, to say the least, but finding that better place just seemed impossible. I guess the information on your Better Beings site more or less inspired me to take that leap of faith and see what a wellness retreat is all about. I remember thinking, “What do I have to lose?”, and booking that flight to Hawaii. The idea of being able to retake control of my life in terms of nutrition and fitness resonated with me, but I was never really in tune with how emotional, and spiritual health fit in to the equation. With an open mind, and a bit of skepticism, I boarded the plane and began my trek, to what I now regard as the most beautiful place on earth.

I really don’t even know where to begin. First off, Kauai, is probably the best place in the world for a wellness retreat. I remember asking you, “Why Kauai”? Your reply was, “You’ll see when you get there”. It seemed impossible to be anything but “well” on that island. Looking back, I found that before you make positive changes in your life, you sort-of have to disconnect from your old habits and even your old way of life. Kauai provided me the opportunity to truly disconnect like I had never done before. Even the 6 hour time changed helped me to disconnect from the life I left back home and be more present, allowing me to get the most out of the activities you had planned for us.

Each day at the retreat included one or more excursions, activities, workouts, guided meditations, meal preparations, group discussions, and a very well put together wellness class. Each of these activities was well planned, thought out and meaningful.

I remember the first evening, you asked us to write down our goals for the trip. I revisited my journal after I got back home, and my first goal I was to take home new tools to help me live a better life. I am happy to say, so far, mission accomplished.

I took a lot away from all of the amazing experiences jammed into that short week, but for me, the realization of how important balance is, made an impact. As we discussed, the effects of stress, sleep habits, and nutrition, my eyes were opened as to how unhealthy of a lifestyle I was living. The scary part for me was, I actually thought I was living in a fairly healthy way. You also shed light on the fact that you can’t really live a truly happy life, and be healthy emotionally, unless all the other components of wellness are in place.

I have to say, after being back home for a month, I’ve changed my diet based on your guidance, I’ve gotten back into a workout routine, and I’ve been making a concerted effort to manage the stresses in my life in a more positive way. I honestly don’t remember feeling as good as I feel now!

At the end of the day, I came home with an awareness, some tools, and a new found motivation to help me better take control of my life in terms of nutrition, physical fitness which, I truly feel has played directly into an improvement in my emotional, and spiritual health as well.

Michelle, the retreat was awesome! So much fun, such wonderful people, and so much great, life changing information! One of the best things I’ve ever done for myself! Surfing was awesome!!! You may very well see me on the next one!
